Symmetry in Sura al-Mu'minoon

Dr. Neal Robinson (a non-Muslim scholar) has discovered chiastic structures in Sura al-Mu’minoon.

His discoveries have been published in the Journal of Qur’anic Studies, volume 2, issue no. 1 (2000), pages 89-106.

Here is one of the chiastic structures he found (23:54-63):

Here is another chiastic structure that he discovered, which I also had identified before I found out that he had preceded me (23:1-11):

I have noted that this chiastic structure is distinguished by the Qur’an as a distinct unit due to both theme and rhyme, for a switch in both theme and rhyme occurs in verse 12.

I have also noted that section D is about being active (and going out of your comfort zone) for the sake of purity, while section D’ is about limiting your activity (and staying within your allotted zone) for the sake of purity.

Section C and C’ implies a link between vain talk (laghw) and not keeping pledges (amaanaat). I have found further evidence to support this link from the Qur’an; verses 2:225 and 5:89 mention both of these words together, in a linked fashion. Furthermore, verse 78:35 displays a connection between vain talk (laghw) and lying, and not keeping pledges is an instance of lying.
